Sarah Chaffey

Sarah Chaffey is an independent performance practitioner based in Perth. Grounded in the discipline of contemporary dance, her performance, choreographic, and research practice extends to interdisciplinary dimensions through collaborative projects with local and international artists. Sarah was awarded ECU's Higher Degree by Research scholarship for her Masters by Research project, Voice in Motion (2021); examining the integration of voice and acting fundamentals into independent contemporary dance practice. In recent years she has expanded her performance practice vertically, exploring relationships between pole and contemporary dance. Her current project in development, Chrome, explores the empowerment and stigma surrounding pole dancing, through a comical dance and theatre production. As a performer and collaborator, she has recently worked with Xin Ong (Ceci n’est pas une chaise [this is not a chair]), Talitha Maslin (Wasteland), Gogi Dance Collective and Talitha Maslin (Siren), CAKE and Esplanade - Singapore (Rubber Girl on the Loose). In 2021 she was the movement coach and choreographer for the film How to Please a Woman. Sarah and Xin have worked collaboratively to bring together the improvisation scores and choreography for i².
